Become a Better Presenter
Move from Panic to Poised Professionalism…and Better Presentations
Displaying nervousness while presenting is not the worst thing a presenter can do. Putting an audience to sleep is a far greater offense.
Our presentation skills programs are valuable for anyone who has to make persuasive or informative presentations to clients, prospects, or colleagues. Whatever your current skill level, we will help you create positive change through a variety of processes including videotaped and critiqued practice sessions with real life material.
Training Opportunities
Here’s a quick run-down of our courses available to companies & professionals who are interested in being more effective.
Professional Presentation Skills
A skill-building seminar designed for people presenting one-on-one, in small group and/or large group settings, Professional Presentation Skills focuses on two major issues: how to organize a presentation and how to deliver it.
The typical format is for two days and up to ten participants. Each participant is videotaped and critiqued six times.
Participants will learn to…
- Analyze an audience in advance and adapt content and style to the needs and interests of the audience
- Organize both persuasive and informative presentations
- Design and use powerful visuals
- Use effective delivery skills, including eye contact, movement and stance, gestures and animation, and elimination of non-words
- Control nervous energy and appear poised and confident
- Earn the audience’s attention at the start and hold it throughout
- Handle questions and objections from an audience
Presenting with PowerPoint
Presenting with PowerPoint includes lectures and exercises focused on two aspects of PowerPoint presentations: how to create powerful visuals and how to use high-tech projection equipment.
The typical format is for two days and up to ten participants. Each participant makes a formal PowerPoint presentation, which is videotaped and critiqued for delivery skills, organization of content, design of visuals, and “working the screen” as you integrate projected images into your presentation.
Participants will learn to…
- Analyze an audience in advance and adapt content and style to the needs and interests of the audience
- Choose design and format elements to convey an “image” while the content of the visual conveys the information
- Create visuals using pictures, graphs, and charts instead of words when appropriate
- Add animation to a visual to increase impact
- Use PowerPoint’s amazing powers with restraint so the visuals don’t distract or steal the show
- Prepare for (and prevent) the various ways computers and high-tech projection equipment can fail (and learn to have a low-tech backup system)
- Handle projection equipment gracefully during a presentation
Presentation Skills for Technical Professionals
Presentation Skills for Technical Professionals is the formal name for our “Helping Tech’s Talk to Mere Mortals” courses especially designed for Information Technology specialists and managers, Research and Development managers, scientists and technicians. It is a customized version of our Professional Presentation Skills seminar—designed to help a special category of audience reach many of the same learning outcomes.
Special emphasis is placed on understanding the needs and interests of different audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. For generalist audiences, participants learn to focus on the “big picture” rather than on the science and technical details.
Participants will learn to…
- Convert jargon and technical language into everyday English.
- Technical professionals learn to use energy, animation and drama in delivering presentations.
- Customized versions of our audience analysis worksheet and presentation planner help technical presenters transfer their new skills to the job.
